ANOTHER STEP TOWARDS PROMOTION

GARTCAIRN took another impressive step towards promotion in their first season as a junior side with a 3-1 victory over Vale of Leven.

Cairns manager Gerry Bonham was looking to secure back to back victories for the Airdrie based side and things got off to the best start after 4 minutes. A superb pass from midfield put Yami Misanjo clean through and the striker slotted home despite protests from the Vale bench that he was offside. Both teams had chances in the first half after the frantic start and Vale of Leven came closest hitting the bar with a header just before half time.

The second half started slowly and a couple of half chances were given to either side. However, on 64 minutes Gartcairn doubled their advantage with some great work down the right the ball fell to Martin Harty who squared the ball for Lee Pettigrew to net his 2nd goal in two games.

Gartcairn weren’t done yet and on 72 minutes Lee Pettigrew was put clean through and he calmly rounded the keeper and slotted home for his 2nd and Gartcairns 3rd of the game.

Vale of Leven pulled a consultation back on 84 minutes with a loss of concentration at the back allowed a Vale of Leven defender (name tbc) to score.

Gartcairn are now 3 points from promotion and with back to back wins, Gerry Bonham has them playing with tremendous team spirit and belief that they will gain automatic promotion in their maiden season as a junior side.
